In reality, the warning is often misunderstood.
The key words are “except by the consumer.” That means once you purchase the pillow, you are the consumer, and you’re completely free to remove the tag if you want. These labels were originally introduced to protect buyers from dishonest manufacturers who, many years ago, sometimes stuffed pillows and mattresses with unsanitary or mislabeled materials.
